Scooch to 'Fly The Flag' for the UK
This years performers
This year the BBC selected 6 acts for the annual "Making Your Mind Up" show, to decide who would represent the UK in Helsinki on 12th May.

Five of the acts were very experienced and reasonably well known, between them having achieved a remarkable 47 top twenty hits in the UK Charts. French peformer Cyndi was the only name that was unfamiliar to the British audience.

The style of music in this years show was very diverse but Cyndi and Scooch stood out and made it to the final.

Scooch won on the night with Cyndi coming 2nd in the sing-off. So which song was your favourite and who did you want to represent the United Kingdom in Helsinki? Here you can listen to all the songs and vote for your favourite.

Liz McClarnon (known as Lil) is a former member of Atomic Kitten.
Her entry (Don't It Make You) Happy! is a catchy song with a sixties feel about it. Some have compared the tune to 'Son Of A Preacher'
Best odds available 7-1
Brian Harvey

"I Can"

Total UK Hits: 16

*Dial 09011 110 842
or text SONG 2 to 82222
Brian Harvey was a member of the pop band East 17 who formed back in 1992.
His song 'I Can' is a well performed ballad with elements of gospel. 3rd favourite with UK bookies.
Best Odds: 5-1
Big Brovaz

'Big Bro Thang'

Total UK Hits: 7

*Dial 09011 110 843
or text SONG 3 to 82222
Big Brovaz are Nadia, Cherise, J-Rock and Randy, and had many hits during 2002-04.
'Big Bro Thang' is a mixture of R&B and Rap and sounds like a track that could chart in the UK. It's hard to say how it would do in Eurovision? The song is 2nd favourite to qualify.
Best odds: 7-2
Cyndi

'I'll Leave My Heart'

Total UK Hits: 0

*Dial 09011 110 844
or text SONG 4 to 82222
Cyndi Almouzni was born in Marseilles, France in 1984. Her parents met in France
after fleeing the Algerian war. 'I'll Leave My Heart' is a strong ballad, compared by some to 'You Raise Me Up'. The New Yorker described her talent "remarkably appealing, with the vocal power of Whitney Houston"
Best Odds: 10-1
Scooch

'Flying The Flag (For You)'

Total UK Hits: 3

*Dial 09011 110 845
or text SONG 5 to 82222
Scooch are Russ, Natalie, Caroline & David. Formed in 1999 to rival Steps.
The group had 3 hits in 2000 before vanishing into obscurity. Scooch reformed especially for MYMU. The song is catchy if somewhat chessy. Novelty songs can do well so this could score some points for the UK.
Best odds: 12-1
Hawkins & Brown

'They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To'

Total UK Hits: 6

*Dial 09011 110 846
or text SONG 6 to 82222
Justin Hawkins is best known as the former lead singer of The Darkness.
Together with Beverlei Brown there is an up tempo, almost jazzy feel to this song. Justin's falsetto voice is put to good use in the chorus. The bookies favourite.
Best odds: 7-4
